By definition, 'Conscious Consumerism' refers to when consumers proactively seek out brands that are both ethical and sustainable.

For me, it's about supporting small businesses that are using their brand and platform to create social reforms, challenge the norm and celebrate authenticity. There has been a noticeable change in my consumer behaviour over the last few years (post being a poor uni student). I think in today's society, it's no longer enough to just be a profitable business. Businesses need to be actively engaged with their consumers on social, political and environmental issues and how their businesses impact and influence these three pillars.

There are so many amazing Indigenous owned businesses currently operating on both a national and international stage. The thing I've found with most of these businesses is they give back to their communities, and they support movements that are bigger than their brands, that have the opportunity to create real change in this world.

To name a couple of my favourite Australian Indigenous brands (in no particular order):

I can really see the value in these businesses and how they have the ability to spark interesting conversations and debates. I truly believe change occurs with the small things we do each day, including wearing statement pieces that challenge the way people think. That's why I have chosen to be a brand ambassador for The Minority Co. It's a brand that truly embodies everything I stand for. We all have a part to play and I believe by representing this particular brand, I can continue to educate others and create change. I'm super excited to watch this business grow, thrive and flourish.

I encourage you to research the brands you invest in and be a bit more purposeful when deciding where you purchase your everyday goods from.

As always, thanks for reading.

Love,

Nova xo
